Plastic string
1000 x 30 x 30 cm
String, red string, seems to hold China together; cheap plastic twine ties baskets to bicycles, suspends fish from market stalls. To Chinese eyes it's so ubiquitous it's invisible, but twisted into a giant's rope the material is transformed; it snakes subversively across the gallery floor, resembling an umbilical cord, the gory entrails on display in Chinese markets everywhere, or a covertly political river of blood.
